Important – from RSGB – Olympics and 70cms.

CQ All
Ofcom have today announced an extra new draft Criminal Prosecution Regulations with Protection radii around event zones. See
It is imperative that all Radio Amateurs using 70cm Band are fully conversed with these new regulations. You are advised to download the “Full Print Version” and read these new regulations very carefully. We can expect zero tolerance of non-compliance from Ofcom and the Authorities during the Olympics.

Shack Visitor

We would like to extend a warm welcome to Garry Brookes GD4IZL/GD8PPU. Garry visited us at the shack in Foxdale last night where he met up with a few of the regular IOMARS members.

Garry is currently living in Douglas while he sells his property in the UK to buy here. He is working for the MER, and will likely be heard activating the odd Manx SOTA hill, or working through GB3IM repeater.

We hope to see you at Clubnight and the shack some time soon!

Eary Cushlin Radio Weekend

This years trip to Eary Cushlin will be 15-16 September. Places cost £20 per person for overnight stay, and £10 per person per day. Costs of this event have increased dramatically, with the hire of the house now being £200 for the weekend, so the more the merrier!

Mike Dunning GD0HYM is point of contact, and in charge of rounding up your cash. All are welcome, with the emphasis being on having a bit of fun and playing / talking radio for the two days.

Rules? There aren’t any really – bring your own food and drink, maybe some coal or logs for the fire – and don’t forget a radio and some sort of antenna. It’s a very informal gathering of locals who maybe work a bit of rare DX and others just sit and chat in a great setting overlooking the cliffs and beyond to Ireland.

Mike can be contacted at club night, or the shack on a Wednesday evening, or even email(!)
